Transparent creator Jill Soloway has signed on to write and direct Millennium Films’ Red Sonja, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Soloway has been a proponent of what they call ‘The Heroine’s Journey’ – which could come to play in this adaptation.

“The Heroine’s Jourey is repairing the divided feminine: the wife and the other woman confronting each other–mom, stripper. That I think women’s journeys are really about repairing these sort of divided parts of ourselves,” Soloway told Vanity Fair in 2013. “And this divide in our culture that I think is responsible for so much that is a problem in our culture.”

In addition to her work on Amazon’s Transparent, Soloway executive produced Six Feet Under, United States of Tara, and How to Make It in America. In addition to directing various TV episodes, they have also helmed the film Afternoon Delight.

Millennium have been working with Red Sonja‘s owners for over a decade to develop a new film, with a number of directors including Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, and Bryan Singer to helm the film at various points in time. Millennium have not announced who would play Red Sonja – Rose McGowan was announced for the role in 2008, and in 2011 Millennium’s founder Avi Lerner said that Amber Heard was his top choice for the role.
